New California Minimum Wages Coming in 2025

January 01, 2025 marks a new year, and another update in minimum wages for California.

New increased minimum wage requirements will take effect on January 1, 2025, for the state of California, as well as multiple California cities and counties. The increased wages apply only to hours worked on or after January 1, 2025.

As of January 1, 2025, new statewide minimum wages for California are as follows:

  • California State Minimum Wage for Hourly Employees: $16.50/hour (regardless of size)
  • California State Minimum Wage for Exempt Employees: $68,640/year, or $1,320/ week

As of January 1, 2025, minimum wages will be increasing in the following cities/counties in California:

 Belmont, CA: $18.30/hour (as of 01/01/2025)

Burlingame, CA: $17.43/hour (as of 01/01/2025)

Cupertino, CA: $18.20/hour (as of 01/01/2025)

Daly City, CA: $17.07/hour (as of 01/01/2025)

East Palo Alto, CA: $17.45/hour (as of 01/01/2025)

El Cerrito, CA: $18.34/hour (as of 01/01/2025)

Foster City, CA: $17.39/hour (as of 01/01/2025)

Half Moon Bay, CA: $17.47/hour (as of 01/01/2025)

Hayward, CA: $16.50/hour for small businesses (25 or fewer employees); $17.36/hour for large businesses (26 or more employees) (as of 01/01/2025)

Los Altos, CA: $18.20/hour

Menlo Park, CA: $17.10/hour (as of 01/01/2025)

Mountain View, CA: $19.20/hour (as of 01/01/2025)

Novato, CA$17.00/hour for small businesses with 1-25 employees; $17.00/hour for large businesses with 26-99 employees; and $17.27/hour for very large businesses with 100 or more employees. (as of 01/01/2025)

*Novato lists the minimum wage for small businesses with 1-25 employees as $16.42/hour; however, this is less than the 2025 CA state minimum of $16.50/hour.

Oakland, CA: $16.89/hour; $18.36/hour for hotel workers with Health Benefits; $24.48/hour for hotel workers without Health Benefits (as of 01/01/2025) 2

West Hollywood, CA: $19.65/hour for non-hotel employees; $19.61/hour for hotel employees (in effect until 06/30/2025)
