The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) recently announced the updated optional standard mileage reimbursement rates for 2025. The standard mileage rate is now $0.70 cents per mile, an increase of $0.03 cents from 2024’s standard rate. The current 2025 mileage rates are as follow:
- 70 cents per mile driven for business use, up 3 cents from 2024.
- 21 cents per mile driven for medical purposes, the same as in 2024.
- 21 cents per mile driven for moving purposes for qualified active-duty members of the Armed Forces, unchanged from last year.
- 14 cents per mile driven in service of charitable organizations, equal to the rate in 2024.
If you use your car for business, charity, medical, or moving purposes, you may be able to claim a deduction on your 2024 tax return. The IRS posts standard mileage rates annually that can be used to calculate these deductions. These rates are subject to changes every year, so it’s important to check them upon every update.
